Tasked with uncovering bold ideas to stimulate the Canadian economy, the Growth Council — a group of external advisers to Finance Minister Morneau — have called on the government to dramatically increase the level of immigration to Canada. This is being put forward as a way to support stronger economic growth for the country.
Their recommendation is to increase immigration to 450,000 people annually over five years and to simplify and streamline the process for high-skilled and entrepreneurial immigrants to come to Canada. At the Century Initiative, we support these targets and a gradual increase to reach them thoughtfully and responsibly over the next five years.
